About
We exist for the people the system forgot.
Our Mission
Millions of trauma survivors live with nervous systems that won't stop fighting — even after the danger is gone. We know how to help.
Restore the Last funds frontline organizations with neurofeedback technology to deliver nervous system restoration to those who need it most — including survivors of trafficking, foster care, and violence. The problem is massive. The solution exists. We just need to get it to the right people.
We're a funding and deployment model — not a therapy program, not a conventional charity.
We find organizations already serving the people therapy never reaches. We put the technology in their facilities and train their staff to run it.
The result: measurable recovery, at scale, in communities that had no access before.
Our Name
Restore the Last
Restore
From Psalm 23 — "He restores my soul." The Hebrew word is yashuv: to return, to bring back, to make whole again. Not to fix what's broken, but to recover what was always there. That's what nervous system restoration does. It doesn't add something new. It returns the brain to the calm it was built for.
The Last
From Matthew 20:16 — "The last shall be first." And Matthew 25 — "Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me." The last are the ones forgotten by the system. The ones who aged out. The ones trafficked. The ones born into violence they didn't choose. We start there.
North Stars
What guides us.
Psalm 23
"He restores my soul."
We believe in restoration — not management, not coping, not endurance. The nervous system can heal. That conviction drives everything we fund.
Tikkun Olam
"Repair of the world."
A Jewish concept that calls us to participate in mending what's broken. Not wait for someone else. Not study the problem longer. Act — where the fracture is deepest.
How We Work
We fund. We don't run clinics.
Rescue gets people out. It rarely gets the trauma out of them. And therapy is expensive, scarce, and out of reach in the places that need it most — so we bring the technology to the need.
Restore the Last is deployment infrastructure. We raise funds, place the technology, train staff, and measure outcomes. We don't run treatment centers — we equip the ones that already exist.
Note: Restore the Last and CalmWaves are legally and operationally separate organizations. CalmWaves develops the direct neurofeedback technology. Restore the Last funds its deployment to those who need it most.
Founding Team
Built by people who've seen the proof.
Restore the Last wasn't built in a boardroom. It was built by two people who watched this technology change lives — and couldn't justify not doing something about it.
Dallas Cowan
Co-Founder, Operations
Dallas leads the operational side of Restore the Last — partner development, program design, and deployment strategy. He has worked directly with kids in foster care and seen the gap between what they need and what the system provides.
He has also helped build brain health and performance centers across the country with CalmWaves. He knows the technology — and what it takes to scale it.
Dr. Doug Cowan
Co-Founder
Dr. Doug Cowan is a licensed therapist with over 30,000 brain improvement sessions to his name. His clinical work spans veterans, trauma survivors, PTSD, and people that traditional mental health care has struggled to reach. That body of work is the foundation this organization stands on.
He is also the founder of CalmWaves — the organization behind the direct neurofeedback technology we deploy. Restore the Last exists to get that technology to the people who need it most.
Board of Directors
The people who hold us accountable.
Our board oversees the finances, the partnerships, and the direction of the work. They bring clinical expertise, field experience, and a shared conviction: restoration is possible.
